Consider that perhaps God isn’t testing your obedience, but rather He’s exposing it.

God didn’t leave the Canaanites among Israel because He didn’t know how they would respond, of course He knew.... but did Israel know how faithless they were? Did Israel anticipate how disobedient they would be, or how distant they had become?

They married, and then both were ruined. Mud and water will never make more water, but it will always make more mud.

Just because God allows evil, doesn’t mean it’s ours to play with.

“I don’t know how I ever made it up here, driv

“I don’t know how I ever made it up here, driving around, its not like I had a GPS.” I heard my mom say that coming into down town Memphis and I giggled to myself and thought “gosh, I don’t know how you made it either.” Conversation shifted and I didn’t hear her again until I was standing on the balcony of our suite looking out over the city. I saw all of those roads twisting on top of one another, so tangled up that no real destination was clear from where I was standing. It hit me in that moment that I didn’t know how I had made it through all of those years either. I wish I could say it was because I trusted God or even that I loved Him. It wasn’t. I was reminded about the mistakes I’ve made. The way I grew up, the way I coped with the way I grew up. I thought about the people I could have been had I fully applied my potential and even remembered the people I pretended to be when I felt all I really had applied just wasn’t enough. “So it was not you who sent me here, but God” Genesis 45:8 It’s what Joseph said to his brothers after he revealed to them that he was still alive after all he had suffered at their hands. Here is something I’m realizing- God is in control. We all are as equally vulnerable because He is all authority. What does that mean? It means God rules my life- not good people, not bad people, not circumstances, and not fate but God. He is in full control. Tetelestai. It’s Greek for one of the last words Jesus said on the cross. It translates two ways: it is finished, paid in full. Everything I ever got wrong is paid for. Everything that was ever done wrong to me? Paid for. Forgiveness is finished. Joseph reached point in his trials where none of the pain mattered anymore because the purpose was greater. Even if he never reached a place of forgiveness in his heart for his brothers, God has. God doesn’t need our performance nor does He need our permission. He didn’t say Katie, be better, I’ll forgive you. He said come home, it’s paid for. He didn’t say Katie, are you okay now? Can I forgive them? He said it is finished. I carry this around on my arm now to remind me that all of my mistakes are paid for, but even more importantly, so are theirs

Whether it feels okay, or whether it doesn’t- He

Whether it feels okay, or whether it doesn’t- He’s Lord and He is only good. It becomes harder to say when you have to scratch more than the surface to believe it.
